The Village Project
Program Successes

Our program is extremely successful and highly effective!  To show this, we measure our curriculum with a pre-, mid- and post- intervention survey.  The results from our Violence Prevention Classes showed:

  • An overall 20% increase in awareness of positive choices made with anger and violence.
  • A 37% increase in children saying that their feelings of anger are not bad.
(This helps prevent children from repressing their anger and blowing up later!)
  • A 24% increase in recognizing yelling as a form of violence,
  • A 30% increase in knowing for every choice they make, there is an outcome,
  • A 28% increase in knowing that anger doesn’t go away by merely ignoring it and
  • A 17% increase in knowing there are safe ways of letting anger out.

The results clearly indicate that the children who participated in The Village Project program met cognitive objectives.  They learned about anger and that there are non-violent responses to anger.  In addition, the results indicate that participants acquired knowledge from the first half of the program and that this knowledge was maintained.

Our program works and is effective - We change the young people’s beliefs and
provide new, safe ways of handling conflict!

Children have told us how we have changed their lives for the better, how they feel safer and listened to and how they understand and really “get” our approaches.  One child shared after an interactive theatre that he no longer had fear of his bigger brother bullying him.

A full 25% of randomly selected children said, unsolicited, that rather than punch their brother or sister during an argument they punched a pillow instead.
This was exactly what we taught in our lessons.

Families of the children from the groups have thanked us and noticed changes in their children.  One mother shared, “Last year when my son was having some real problems making choices I hooked him up with your project.  From that point on he began implementing the tactics you shared with him.  This was evidenced by better life choices, perfect attendance and the Honor Roll twice.  Not to mention life at home became a whole lot easier for all.”  She added, “I truly believe that without the alternative activities, life skills and consequence recognition you provide, some of these kids would be lost, mine included.”

Our program works, it changes children’s lives and the lives of families as well!
